You’ve probably already done the things you’re supposed to do.

Seen a doctor. Maybe physical therapy. Maybe you’re managing it with medication, or just pushing through. For a lot of people, that gets you partway — some relief, a diagnosis, a plan — but something still isn’t fully resolved.

The pain flares back up. The anxiety is quieter but still there. You’ve done the right things, and there’s still a piece missing.

Conventional care is very good at some things.

Diagnosing what’s structurally or chemically wrong. Managing acute symptoms. Treating a specific, isolated problem.

It’s just not always built to ask how your sleep, stress, digestion, and pain are connected to each other — or to treat the pattern underneath the symptom rather than the symptom itself. That’s a different kind of question, and a different kind of care tends to answer it better.

Healing can be challenging and looks different for every individual.

A cozy bedroom with a bed covered in white and brown linens, a small bedside lamp emitting warm light, a wooden accent wall, window with a white curtain embroidered with a diamond pattern, and three anatomical charts on the beige wall.
Person heating a glass sculpture with a flame in a cozy room with a side table, lamp, and various small items.

What tends to help at that point:

  1. Someone who treats you as a specific person, not a standard protocol

  2. An approach aimed at the underlying pattern, not just symptom management

  3. Something you can use alongside what you’re already doing, not instead of it

  4. A way to know fairly quickly whether it’s actually working for you

That’s what I offer.

I’m Monica MacCarroll, a licensed and nationally certified acupuncturist (L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.) practicing general acupuncture and Chinese medicine in Knoxville, TN. I trained in classical Chinese medicine at Daoist Traditions College under Jeffrey Yuen, and I’ve been in practice since 2016.

Diagnosis built around you, not a protocol.

In Chinese medicine, ten people with the same Western diagnosis can have ten different underlying patterns. You’re not slotted into a standard track.

More than one tool, matched to what you need.

Acupuncture, Chinese herbs, cupping, gua sha, Tui Na, and reiki are all part of the practice.

What to expect

01 Initial visit

We talk through what’s going on — not just the symptom, but sleep, stress, digestion, and anything else that might be connected. This shapes your individual diagnosis and plan.

02 Treatment

A combination of acupuncture, herbs, cupping, gua sha, or other modalities, chosen for you.

03 Follow-up

We track what’s changing. Within the first few sessions, you’ll have a clear sense of whether this is working for you.

Do I have to get acupuncture?

Not at all!  If you have any anxiety surrounding acupuncture needles but would still like treatment there are options.  You can get acupressure, moxa, cupping, gua sha, and reiki.
